Lori Barnett Dodson, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and District 6 Council Member, was elected to her first term on the Garland City Council in May 2011.
Ms. Dodson is a Garland native with a family tradition of public service. Her father has served on Garland’s Electrical Board since 1984, and one of her two brothers is a firefighter in Plano. Ms. Dodson is a certified public accountant with E2M Partners, LLC, a real estate investment fund. Her background in real estate was a strong asset when former District 6 Council member Barbara Chick appointed Ms. Dodson to the Plan Commission in 2006.
“I worked for several years with the Honorable Mrs. Chick and the Parks and Recreation Department to get trees installed in the median of Shiloh Road,” says Ms. Dodson. That work led to the Plan Commission appointment. Ms. Dodson has also served with the West Garland Neighborhood Association, with the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, and as a volunteer for the Garland Police Criminal Investigative Division and the Senior Source Money Management Program. She’s also been active with the Garland Parent Teacher Association, the North Garland Little League Association and the North Garland Band Booster Association.
“I hope to encourage District 6 citizens to become more involved in the City government process,” says Ms. Dodson. In addition to her work and volunteer activities, Ms. Dodson enjoys reading and traveling.
